Taliban stones young couple to death

Two Afghans had planned to elope.

A YOUNG MAN AND woman have been stoned to death by the Taliban in northern Afghanistan for allegedly having an affair.

The man, 28, was married and the woman, 23, was engaged to another man.

The governor of the district concerned said that the Taliban had read a statement to the village of Mullah Quli yesterday claiming the couple had confessed to adultery. The two young people were then stoned to death.

This was the second recorded public execution by the Taliban this month.

Last week, the Taliban shot a pregnant woman to death after first punishing her with 200 lashes for an alleged affair.

In April last year, a young couple was executed by firing squad after their parents handed them over to the Taliban because they were allegedly planning to elope together without the consent of their parents.
