A MAJOR CONSULTATION process for how the education system will develop over the next three years is underway.

And although schools are specifically being targeted for their views on things – the public is also being asked to get involved.

This is part of a drive by the new government to put things on the right course during its first 100 days, and will be guiding by what has already been laid down in the Programme for a Partnership Government.

Outlining his goals for the process, new minister for education Richard Bruton says that education system should support the process of developing a strong economy, something that will in turn “support a fair and compassionate society”.

The Government’s basic vision is to use our economic success to make people’s lives better.

A number of areas have been outlined as priorities, including tackling disadvantage, promoting creativity and entrepreneurial capacity in students and creating diversity and choice for parents.

Minister Bruton has also emphasised that its focus will range from primary education up to adults returning to further education later in life.
