1. #TALKS: The Opposition is to be briefed on the state of the country’s finances this morning, in a series of presentations expected to take less than two and a half hours for each leader. In return for the briefing, the Taoiseach is appealing to the Opposition to show a unity of purpose. Joan Burton will be the first in at 8.30am, followed by Michael Noonan at 11am and Sinn Féin’s Arthur Morgan at 1.30pm.
2. #TODDLER: A 4 year old boy, Nico Price, was crushed by a lorry wheel in a tragic accident at his father’s breaker’s yard in Donegal on Friday.
3. #ROADS: A woman in her 20s has been killed in a four car road crash in Limerick, bringing the number of people who died in weekend crashes to four. Meanwhile, the body of a man in his 40s has been discovered on the roadside in Avoca Co Wicklow.
4. #RECESSIONOMICS: Thousands of families are turning to money lenders to pay household bills.
5. #LEAK: Wikileaks is preparing to publish 500,000 Iraq war documents in what’s being touted as the “largest security leak in US military history”.
6. #RAMMED: A 26 year old man has been arrested after 23 people were injured, two seriously, when a stolen car rammed them while they were waiting outside a nightclub in Greater Manchester early on Sunday morning. It’s understood the man who was arrested had earlier been refused entry to the club.
7. #TYPHOON: Typhoon Megi makes landfall in Philippines with winds of 140 mph – the strongest typhoon to hit the country for years.
8. #CHINA: The death toll from a gas explosion in a coal mine in China has risen to 30.
9. #MINERS: The Chilean miners’ secrecy pact is eroding under the pressure of the large cheques being waved in their direction.The New York Times reports that miners, who had made an underground pact not to talk about their ordeal, have been asking for as little as $40 and upward of $25,000 for interviews. Some media outlets have offered to fly miners to Japan, Germany or Italy for exclusives.
