1. #TWITTER: Sophisticated hackers may have gained access to the usernames, passwords and email addresses attached to 250,000 Twitter accounts in an attack this week.

2. #EGYPT: A 23-year-old protester was shot dead in Cairo last night as security forces clashed with demonstrators at the presidential palace. Police said that 20 people were arrested during the unrest.

3. #HALAL: Another significant food-labelling breach has been discovered in the UK. The Food Standards Agency has revealed that a number of Halal meat pies and pasties supplied to English and Welsh prisons contained traces of pork DNA.

4. #JUSTICE: The long-awaited report examining the level of State involvement in the Magdalene Laundries will be published on Tuesday. Although advocacy groups hope for an apology and some form of compensation, expectations among survivors remain low. See a snapshot of their wishlist here.

5. #BOYCOTT: According to the Irish Independent, just 80 nurses have applied for the 1,000 positions created in the HSE’s controversial graduate scheme, which would see workers paid 20 per cent less than the usual starter salary.

6. #EXPENSES: Just under €2 million was paid to 60 senators for travel and office expenses and allowances in 2012, new figures compiled by TheJournal.ie have shown. And the country’s 166 TDs received €7.2 million for the same period.

7. #FIRST TIME: A man from Sierra Leone is to become the first African to take a legal case against an Irish-based religious congregation for sexual abuse which allegedly occurred at his school, which was run by the Spiritans (formerly the Holy Ghost Fathers). The alleged abuser was a missionary priest working in the school.

8. #BELLE DE JOUR: Former escort and writer Brooke Magnanti has called for sex workers in Ireland to have their say on a review of prostitution legislation. She shares her concerns about the current hearings with TheJournal.ie.

9. #GAMES: Between the Super Bowl and the Six Nations, it’s going to be a busy weekend of sport. For American Football fans, this guide to staying awake tomorrow night and still being a productive member of society on Monday might be the most important thing you read today.
