- Facebook has acquired photo-sharing site Instagram for $1 billion. The two companies announced the acquisition this evening, with both saying they were excited about the move.
- Sony is to cut 10,000 jobs worldwide, according to latest reports. The move is being taken to improve the company’s profit levels, news reports say.
- A lock of Michael Collins’ hair is amongst the many items of historical value that are to be auctioned off in Dublin this week. The other items include newspapers and pistols.

- Priory Hall residents have requested a meeting with the Irish Banking Federation. They are asking for their mortgages to be suspended as they will find out at the end of April if Dublin City Council has to look after moving them to temporary accommodation.
- A little boy found more than he bargained for during an Easter egg hunt – he stood on a WW2-era grenade while on the hunt for chocolate in Somerset. Thankfully, he was not harmed.
- The funeral took place today of Barney McKenna of The Dubliners. President Michael D Higgins was amongst the many mourners who turned out for the mass in St Patrick’s Church in Trim, County Meath today. Also present were former RTE newscaster Anne Doyle, musician Donal Lunny, songwriter Damien Dempsey and Liam O Maonlaí of the Hothouse Flowers.
- MEP Nessa Childers has said that Labour needs to asserts itself in the Coalition- or the very survival of the party is at stake.
- There is no major difference in the quality of teaching between large and small schools, a Government-commissioned report has said.
- What city tops the table for convictions for cigarette smuggling in Ireland? It is Dublin, according to the latest Revenue figures.
- Vita Cortex workers have welcomed the news of new Labour Relations Commission talks about their situation. The workers are said to be hopeful about the outcome.
- Formula 1 chiefs have been urged to “voice some concern” for hunger striker Abdulhadi Al Khawaja, who is entering his 61st day of hunger strike. He was sentenced to life in prison in Bahrain last May, on a charge that is disputed.
- Iarnród Éireann has welcomed the news that it has shown ‘record punctuality’ in the first quarter of 2012. Latest figures show that 39 out of every 40 Intercity journeys reached their destination within 10 minutes of the scheduled arrival time.

- Syrian forces fired at a Turkish refugee camp today, killing one person. A UN-brokered ceasefire is supposed to kick in tomorrow, but may be under threat.
- Finally – Easter may be over, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the rescue of one little paraplegic bunny. When Joe the bunny was rescued, his human companions realised he couldn’t use his two hind legs.
