MELINDA ROSE WOODWARD, the wife of singer Tom Jones, has died.
She passed away after a “short but fierce battle with cancer,” his publicist said, according to the BBC.
They had been married for 59 years.
“Surrounded by her husband and loved ones, she passed away peacefully,” a statement on the star’s website said.
Jones (whose real name is Thomas John Woodward) cancelled a string of planned concert appearances this month with a statement saying it was “due to serious illness in his immediate family”.
He had been due to play gigs in Thailand, Hong Kong, South Korea and the UAE.
The couple, who grew up in Treforest, Pontypridd in Wales, got married aged 16 when they were expecting a child.
Their son Mark Woodward is now Tom’s manager.
