Two arrested over 2001 teen murder

The PSNI reopened the investigation into the murder of Damien Duffy earlier this month.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland have arrested two men in connection with the death of Damien Duffy eleven years ago.

The two men, aged 33 and 37, are being held for questioning at the Antrim Serious Crime Suite. The arrests come after the PSNI reopened the file into the murder of the 18-year-old earlier this month.

Duffy was beaten and stabbed during a confrontation on the Stewartstown Road in the early hours of 20 May 2001. The incident is understood to have been sparked by a dispute in a bar which turned into a major brawl between two groups of people at about 3am.

The teen, who was a trainee maintenance officer, was transferred to a London hospital but he died from his injuries a fortnight later on 4 June.

As police called for people with information to come forward, Patrick Duffy – a brother of the victim – told UTV: “There’s people out there who know what happened and I would beg them to come forward with any slightest bit of information to bring someone to account for this murder.”
