Two charged after garda rammed by stolen van

The garda remains in hospital, although his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

TWO MEN HAVE been charged after a garda was seriously injured by a stolen van.

A garda motorcyclist was hit by the vehicle, which was travelling at high speed through Cork, yesterday morning.

It had rammed a garda van and a number of other vehicles near Merchants Quay.

The injured garda is still in hospital, although his injuries are not life threatening.

The two males arrested yesterday, both in their twenties, will appear before a special sitting of Cork District Court later this morning.

The van was later stopped near Blarney and two men in their 20s were arrested.

Some stolen property was also recovered from the van.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Gurranabraher Garda Station on 021 4946200, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
