Weather update: Rain, rain, and more rain to come

Get those anoraks out if you’re in Leinster or Ulster – you’re gonna need them.

AS IF MONDAYS aren’t glum enough as it is, large parts of the country have been under heavy rain for much of today already.

And as much as we hate to be the bearer of bad news, there’s more to come: Met Éireann  has warned that there could be up to 50mm of rain between this afternoon and tomorrow evening.

In other words: gets those anoraks and wellies out, especially if you live in parts of north Leinster or central Ulster.

Met Éireann has issued a weather warning about the expected heavy rainfall and warned that it will remain dull and wet across most of the country today.

As if that weren’t enough, there is also a gale warning in place in coastal areas with strong winds expected to hit later this evening and throughout the night.

The rain will be widespread on Tuesday but the south of the country will get something of a reprieve with some sunshine in the afternoon.

It’s rare that we get to use a classic video from a 1950s musical but this seems appropriate today:
