Weatherwatch: Cool changes ahead

We’ve had some great weather of late, but like all things, it is going to change, says the Irish Weather Network.

WE HAVE HAD some wonderful weather of late – enough to make us feel like we had a bit of a summer.

But will it last into this week? Sadly not.

According to the Irish Weather Network, we have a changeable week ahead of us, with rain, showers and bright and dry weather.

It will turn milder and humid from Wednesday. Today we will see a cold front sinking southeastwards over the country, said IWN, which will bring some rain to most places.

But this afternoon we can expect clearer and much cooler weather to filter into the northwest, “making it feel very Autumnal by evening”.

Showers will then move into the northwest and western coasts where some will be on the heavy side with a risk of hail and thunder. Mild at first in the southern half of the country but temperatures dropping through the day.

Temperatures in the south could reach 16 or 17C, but will be lower than that – 13 or 14C – in the north, and will fall through the evening in a cold wind.  Tonight will be cold and clear, with a few showers in more western areas.

Tuesday

Tomorrow will be “bright and fresh”, with good amounts of sunshine, but rain is expected in the west by the late afternoon before extending further east overnight.

Temperatures will go into the mid teens at best, with light to moderate west winds in the southwest during the day.

Wednesday

Wednesday will be a mostly dry day in the east and south. However, patchy rain and drizzle can be expected in other areas.

Temperatures will reach a high of 17 or 18C and it will feel more humid in some areas, probably the east and south.

Thursday and Friday

Thursday will see better weather in the south, but some rain and wind in northern areas. The east and south will see the best of the dry weather.

Friday will be more cloudy with patchy rain but good amounts of dry and mild weather around and brighter skies, concluded IWN.
