Fast food chain Wendy's (yes, the one with the square burger) is coming to Ireland this year

The chain will open a new outlet in Cork in the coming months.

WENDY’S, THE ICONIC US fast-food chain best known for its square burgers and Frosty dessert, will open a new Irish restaurant this October in Cork.

The new outlet will be based in Mahon Point Shopping Centre and is set to create 50 jobs, with recruitment already underway for full- and part-time positions.

It won’t be the brand’s first appearance on Irish soil (a Wendy’s briefly operated on Dublin’s North Earl Street in the 1980s) but this time the company says it’s here for the long haul.

The launch marks the first step in Wendy’s partnership with Corrib Oil, announced last year.

On the menu will be a range of items made with Irish beef and chicken, from breakfast wraps and nuggets to kids’ meals, alongside the signature burgers and Frosty.

Michael Dalton, Managing Director of Corrib Brands, said the opening “marks a major milestone in our partnership with Wendy’s”.

“We’re thrilled to bring fresh, locally sourced menu items and quality hospitality to Cork customers, who will be the first in Ireland to experience the brand,” he added.

A wider rollout is also planned, with 10 Wendy’s restaurants expected to open across Ireland between 2025 and 2027.

Michael Clarke, Managing Director of Europe for Wendy’s, said Ireland “is an important market for long-term growth”.

Justin Young, Centre Director at Mahon Point, described the opening as “great news for Cork – not only does it create new local jobs, it also introduces the quality food Wendy’s is known for to the city.”
