Wet ‘n’ windy: Motorists told to drive with caution amid weather warning

HEAVY RAINFALL AND gale force winds are hitting many parts of Ireland today.
Met Éireann has issued a weather warning as periods of “very heavy” rainfall expected over the country today are to continue to late Monday night, or early Tuesday morning.
The forecasters said that accumulations of 40 to 70mm could lead to flooding in places.
Coastal counties of Munster and Leinster are likely to see the highest rainfall.
That’s not all in the “bad weather” department, as Met Éireann also predicts conditions to be “extremely windy” later today and early tomorrow. Southeasterly gales and gusts of 80 to 110km/hr could occur in exposed places, they said.
The warning says southeast winds will increase to gale force on Irish coastal waters from Carlingford Lough to Hook Head to Mizen Head on the Irish sea.
Gardaí have asked motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads as a result of the heavy rainfall, warning that some roads are waterlogged.
