"Our customers are on DoneDeal" - An expert's guide to buying a car in Ireland

Jerry Crowley of Johnson & Perrott Motor Group speaks to us about DoneDeal’s Trusted Dealer programe.

BUYING A CAR is a big financial decision.

That’s why we’re here to provide you with advice and tips from DoneDeal Motors and an expert and experienced car dealer Johnson & Perrott Motor Group to make buying your next dream car easier.

Before getting into the ins and outs of what manufacturer and model, you should decide where you want to buy your car. You need a trusted source that works for you.

DoneDeal is the best place to buy a car in Ireland. With a wide range of vehicles, both new and preowned, available on-site, you’re sure to find your dream car that suits your wants and needs.

As well as a great selection of cars, DoneDeal is home to Ireland’s trusted car dealerships, with franchises from all of the most popular brands showcasing their stock on the site. To make it even easier to find a car, DoneDeal has recently launched the DoneDeal Trusted Dealer Programme. This assures car buyers that they can buy with confidence from a trusted dealer while also helping these trusted dealers stand out from the crowd.

To make buying your next car easier, we’ve asked Jerry Crowley of Johnson & Perrott Motor Group for his top tips. He also breaks down some of the latest car trends and discusses DoneDeal’s role in buying and selling cars in Ireland.

Johnson & Perrott Motor Group

Johnson & Perrott Motor Group was founded in 1810, originally operating as a horse-drawn carriage repair business. Based in the centre of Cork, the business sold its first car in 1903 as it looked to evolve with the changing times.

The business is still family-owned, with the CEO belonging to the family group that helped create the company. It’s currently split into three separate divisions, with motor dealerships (predominantly based in Cork) of different car franchises, the Johnson & Perrott fleet, providing contract hire and fleet management solutions, and lastly, the national truck and van rental.

“We’re always looking for the next big thing because the used car market and the new car market is very competitive,” says Jerry.

For Jerry, DoneDeal is a great platform for selling cars in Ireland. Having built up its customer base by being the best place to buy second-hand items, DoneDeal is now the number one car-site in Ireland.

“It appeals to everybody and it’s a great equaliser,” said Jerry.

“You will get people who like looking … and then you’ll get people who are specifically looking to buy.. It doesn’t matter if we have Fiat 500 stock in a used car lot in Cork or a brand new top-of-the-range Land Rover, our customers are there [on DoneDeal],” Jerry added.

Buying your next car

Dealers like Johnson & Perrott are working in this industry for years and have the expertise and market knowledge to know how to support car buyers in finding the perfect car for them. So we asked Jerry what advice he would give to someone on the lookout for their next car?

“Not all cars will suit all people,” says Jerry, and this is crucial advice to consider.

For Jerry, a big trend he sees at the moment is people switching to electric cars. According to him, many fears about range are unwarranted, as people need to buy the car that suits their needs.

“Sometimes people get fixated on the range, when in actual fact, it shouldn’t matter to them. It’s not something that’ll ever raise its head,” he said.

Jerry believes it’s worth considering the above when going for your next car. With manufacturers such as Volvo making the switch to an entirely hybrid range, cars are making more and more steps towards electrification. The number of EVs is set to change, and will likely stay that way.

The people who are changing now are the people who have made the move to electric and most likely will never ever go back,” Jerry says.

As we continue to digitalise our lives, you’re more likely to find your next car online. DoneDeal is the best place to find your next car given the huge variety of options available there.

“You can find yourself a €200,000 Range Rover as quickly as you find a €1,000 Range Rover,” says Jerry, speaking about the choice of cars on DoneDeal.

Our customers, regardless of what they are looking to buy, they expect us to be on [DoneDeal],” Jerry added.

Trusted Dealer programme

DoneDeal’s latest feature to make buying a car easier is the Trusted Dealer Programme. This celebrates exceptional dealers by displaying a trust badge on their stock. The DoneDeal Trusted Dealer Programme helps dealers to stand out from the crowd and assures car buyers that they can buy with confidence.

Dealers become eligible for this programme by having warranty on their stock, displaying their social proof through reviews, and being an established business, amongst other criteria.

For Jerry, trust “goes to the heart of our business”.

We have generations of customers, literally several generations of customers in the same family who come back to us here over and over,” he said.

The Trusted Dealer badge is there to guarantee the quality of the dealer you’re buying from. It’s a simple way of providing peace of mind to buyers.

“It just kind of reinforces our belief in putting ourselves out there and dealing with our customers in an honourable way,” Jerry added.

The Trusted Dealer programme qualifies the dealer for the customer. And with DoneDeal as the best place to buy cars in Ireland, it’s the best stamp of approval for those looking to buy their next car.
