Witnesses sought to fatal Co Roscommon crash

A woman who was travelling as a passenger in the car died after the vehicle struck a ditch at Frenchpark on the N5 today.

A WOMAN has died following a single vehicle crash in Co Roscommon today.

The 65-year-old woman was a passenger in the car which struck a ditch at Frenchpark on the Westport to Longford Road at around 4.15pm.

Both she and the driver, a 53-year-old man, were taken to Castlebar General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The man remains in hospital.

The road has reopened after being closed earlier today to facilitate a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them on 094 9621630, or at any garda station or on the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
