A 34-YEAR-OLD woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died from the injuries he sustained in a house fire in Co Antrim. 

Police had received reports of a house fire on the Main Street area of Ballymoney shortly before 7am on Tuesday, 1 July.

PSNI officers and firefighters arrived on the scene and worked to extinguish the fire.

Patrick ‘Paddy’ Douglas, aged 55, was taken by ambulance to hospital but has since died from his injures and police launched a murder investigation.

Following a “number of enquiries”, police arrested a 34-year-old woman on suspicion of murder.

She remains in police custody at this time.

PSNI Detective Inspector Claire McGarvey said her thoughts are with Douglas’s family members and loved ones “who are left trying to come to terms with their loss”.

She appealed for anyone with information to contact the police. 

She said the PSNI is particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the Main Street area of Ballymoney before 7am on Tuesday morning and “witnessed anything untoward”.
