Woman arrested in connection with investigations into money laundering released without charge

During searches yesterday, gardaí seized around €400,000, designer bags, watches and objects believed to be rhinoceros horns.

A WOMAN ARRESTED in connection with an investigation targeting money laundering in the Limerick region has been released without charge.

Eleven raids were launched by local and national units yesterday to find evidence and make arrests following a lengthy investigation into activities of an organised crime group in Rathkeale.

Sources have said that the investigation is targeting alleged members of a family-based organised crime group.

As a result of the searches, approximately €400,000 was seized across multiple bank accounts and in cash.

A large number of other goods were also seized, including designer bags, watches and objects believed to be rhinoceros horns. The horns are to undergo examination by experts.

The Journal understands that gang members involved have been the focus of investigations into high level international organised crime, theft of rhino horns and it is also feared that they have been involved in people trafficking in the Mediterranean.

A woman and two men were arrested during the major operation.

The woman has since been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A garda spokesperson said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
