A WOMAN WAS stabbed in the head with a screwdriver following “sustained violence and disorder” in a residential area of Dungannon yesterday.

The woman was among four people hospitalised after police received reports of a violent altercation involving weapons in the Oaks Avenue area around 2.25pm.

PSNI Detective Inspector Ryan described the events as “terrifying” for neighbours and witnesses.

“Thankfully, at this stage it doesn’t appear that any of the injuries are life-threatening,” DI Ryan said.

Five people were arrested following the clashes.

A 35-year-old woman is being held on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, while a 33-year-old woman was arrested for grievous bodily harm.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, as well as several driving offences.

Two other individuals were detained at the scene for offences unrelated to the violence.

Police remain at the scene this morning as inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Residents in the area can expect an increased police presence over the coming days, Ryan said.

“This was a terrifying experience for neighbours and those who witnessed these events, and we would appeal to anyone with information to contact us,” he added.
