A YOUNG GIRL was airlifted to hospital yesterday after being struck by a car and remains in a critical condition.
The incident, involving a car and a pedestrian described by gardaí as a female child, occurred on the L6821 in Clonmellon, Co. Westmeath, shortly before 7.30pm yesterday.
The young girl was airlifted to Temple Street Children’s Hospital for treatment of serious injuries and her condition remains critical.
The scene is preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road is currently closed, with local diversions in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage and were travelling in the area between 6.45pm and 7.45pm yesterday evening, are asked to make this available.
