Knife Crime

Young woman stabbed to death

Victim discovered yesterday afternoon in Tyrone.

A WOMAN HAS been stabbed to death in the Merron Mews area of Dungannon yesterday afternoon. A man who was found at the scene was taken to hospital suffering stab wounds.

The woman was described as being in her 20s and a mother of two, and both she and the injured man are believed to be migrant workers.

Neighbours who witnessed the incident have already stepped forward, and police are asking for anyone else with information to contact them.

Separately, a young man was seriously injured in a knife attack in west Belfast this morning. The man, in his 20s, was stabbed in the head and his eye, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Two men, aged 39 and 44, who were arrested last night are due to appear in court today charged with attempted murder for the stabbing. A third man has been arrested.

A young woman in her early 20s who was also arrested in connection with the stabbing has been released pending further enquiries.

PSNI figures for knife crime across the North show that the number of incidents involving knives or sharp instruments has increased, although in previous years implements other than knives were not included in the data.
