No fire was found in the building and shoppers have been allowed back in now.

SUNDAY SHOPPERS IN Clerys Department store today had to be evacuated after Dublin Fire Brigade received 999 calls.

A number of units of the fire brigade attended the incident at the store on O’Connell Street. A spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that smoke was reported on the premises.

It later emerged this smoke was emanating from a dry riser pipe. The building was evacuated “as a precaution” and shoppers were allowed back in by 2.30pm.

Last night, the fire service was called to a fire at an old cinema on the South Circular Road. It is currently a disused building and there was no one inside.
