Gardaí investigate fatal Cavan rally crash

Four people remain in hospital after yesterday’s crash which killed two people.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING the cause of the fatal car rally crash in Cavan yesterday in which two people were killed.

The two people who died, a 50-year-old man believed to be from Galway and a 29-year-old woman from Cork, were pronounced dead at the scene when a rally car crashed into a crowd of spectators at around 11.30am yesterday morning.

Seven people were injured after the accident, of whom four remain in hospital today. Niamh Smith, a Fianna Fáil councillor for the area, told Newstalk Breakfast this morning that one person is believed to be in critical condition.

Post mortems on the two victims are due to be carried out today in Navan Hospital.

Gardaí have asked for any witnesses to the accident to contact Bailieborough Garda station in Cavan or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
