You may have woken to to ice, be it on your car or bedroom window.

Met Éireann is forecasting snowfalls (not just ‘wintry showers’) in some areas later today.

Some icy roads this morning but most areas dry.

We’ll have some more details on the treacherous roads coming up.

Already there are a number of crashes causing problems this morning.

In Dublin, there’s crash in the city centre on Kevin Street just before the junction with Wexford Street. One lane is blocked.

There’s also been a collision on Ballymun Road that’s causing problems near the Ikea store and the Topaz garage.

On approach to Dublin, there’s also been an accident on the N7 eastbound near junction 10.

In Cork, there’s an overturned car on the South City Link Road outbound before the N40.

Ice is proving to be a problem in many areas. This just about sums it up:

In Clare, there’s been a crash on the N18 northbound between junction 7 at Sixmilebridge and junction 9 at Shannon.

Back in the capital, the N81 is closed both ways between the junctions at Citywest Road and Fortunestown Road because of a crash.

As regards rail journeys, there have been no cancellations yet because of ice but the Waterford-Hueston route is experiencing delays.

The crash we mentioned earlier on the N18 in Co. Clare involved multiple vehicles, according to AA Roadwatch. They’re warning that there are delays on approach.

Cork’s roads are among the worst affected by ice.

In north Dublin city, there’s been a collision in the Phoenix Park on Chesterfield Avenue at the junction with Ordnance Survey Ireland.

It’s leading to heavy traffic through Chapelizod.

A number of the earlier collisions in Dublin have been cleared. The N81 between Citywest and Fortunestown Road is back open.

The crash on Kevin Street in the city has also been cleared.

Cork traffic is experiencing both heavy traffic and some of the worst of the ice.

There’s a security alert on the Belfast-Dublin rail line and commuters are being forced to leave their train and get a shuttle bus to or from Newry.

The flooding is still affecting travel routes in some areas with the western corridor line remaining flooded between Athenry and Gort and also between Ennis and Limerick.

AA Roadwatch has a list of the other roads that remain flooded.

A large vehicle is blocking the Limerick Tunnel northbound and gardaí are advising motorists to stay away.

Two more crashes in Dublin to tell you about, one is on the M50 northbound after Ballymun slip road. One of the cars involved is blocking two lanes.

@LiveDrive is also reporting that there’s been a collision on M1 southbound at Malahide Estuary. Two of the three lanes are blocked.
