Pictures: 16 days and 975 medals later, the Rio Olympics went out with a bang

The closing ceremony at the Maracana Stadium was spectacular to say the least.

IT HAS BEEN an exhausting, exhilarating, and sometimes controversial two weeks (particularly for the Irish), but 16 days later the Rio Olympics have come to a close.

And the games went out with a bang.

The Irish flagbearer for the ceremony was silver medalist rower and Skibbereen legend Gary O’Donovan.

The ceremony itself took place in a downpour, but it didn’t seem to bother any of the attendees.
