YOU WANT SNOW? Well, you’ll get it – if you live along the west coast of Ireland or parts of the east.

Some parts of the country are predicted to get up to 3cm of snow.

In its latest weather forecast, Met Éireann says that there will be showery outbreaks of rain and sleet in the west this evening, with a risk of thunder along the coast. But it says that everywhere else will be dry for a time.

It warns that the rain and sleet will spread further east as the night goes on, turning to snow in places.

Status yellow warning

It’s even got a status yellow warning in place – with a snow-ice warning for Leinster, Monaghan and Waterford in place from today at 6pm to Wednesday at 8am; and a snow-ice warning for Connacht, Cavan, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary for the same time period.

While the first warning says that there will be icy stretches and snow flurries, the second warning says that there will be snow of up to 3cm in places in the above locations. There will be more snow showers and accumulations tomorrow.

The western half of the country can also expect frequent wintry showers through the night, meaning that many of you will wake up to see snow in the morning. If there’s no snow, then there will probably be frost and ice. (Yeah, not quite as exciting)

The lowest temperatures will be +2 to -2 degrees.

It will also be “bitterly cold” tomorrow, with strong winds and wintry showers. But temps will be a little higher: from 1 – 4 degrees. We suppose that counts as good news…
