20 due in court after major Garda drugs sting

After 45 were arrested earlier this week in a major Garda drug bust, 20 will appear in courts in the Capital this morning.

ABOUT 20 of the 45 people arrested in the past days over suspicions they were involved in Dublin’s biggest drug ring are to appear in courts this morning.

Gardaí revealed last night that they had arrested 45 people in 48 hours, in connection with the sale and supply of heroin and crack cocaine.

The arrests had been carried out by officers from the Drug Units at the Kevin Street, Pearse Street, and Store Street Garda stations, in conjunction with the Garda National Drug Unit.

A significant bulk of evidence had been accrued against the arrested people, and 150 charges had already been preferred against them. Each of the arrested parties is likely to have multiple charges.

Gardaí say the arrests have split up “one of the city’s principle drug distribution networks.” The operation had been six months in planning.

20 of the arrested parties will appear at Dublin District Court later this morning.
