GOOD EVENING

The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you need to know before you head out the door.

1. #CLOYNE: A priest implicated in the report into the handling of allegations of child abuse at the Cloyne diocsese in Cork has been dismissed over allegations of child sexual abuse.  The Diocese of Cloyne said today that a number of complaints against one of its priests for the sexual abuse of minors had been upheld by a canonical penal trial and the priest has now been dismissed from the clerical state.

2. #CYPRUS: The next few hours look set to be crucial for the fate of crisis-stricken Cyprus as its parliament debates plans to raise €5.8 billion in order to qualify for a €10 billion EU/IMF bailout. With European authorities running out of patience and the ECB threatening to withdraw funding for its banking system by Monday this will certainly be the story to watch over the weekend.

3. #ISRAEL: Israel has issued a formal apology to Turkey for “any errors that could have led to loss of life” on board the Mavi Marmara flotilla bound for Gaza which was raided by Israeli commandos in May 2010 resulting in the deaths of nine people. The apology comes after the visit of US President Barack Obama to Israel and the West Bank this week.

4. #OMAGH: Two men found liable for the Omagh Bombing are to appeal the decision of Belfast High Court earlier this week, RTÉ reports. Colm Murphy and Seamus Daly were ordered by the court to pay damages totalling nearly €2 million to families of the 29 people, including the mother of unborn twins, who died in the August 1998 explosion in the Co Tyrone town.

5. #WEATHER: It’s very wet out there today as you’ve probably noticed with parts of the M50/M11 Dublin to Wexford road closed as a result of excess surface water. Severe flooding has also hit the M1 at the Balbriggan south exit with Met Éireann issuing a rainfall warning for pretty much everywhere. Here is your rough weather picture of the day. Let’s be careful out there.
