1. Two men charged in relation to an arson attack on an IPAS centre in Drogheda last week appeared in court yesterday.

Both were refused bail.

2. European and Irish security officials are increasingly concerned that Ireland lacks the radar, air-defence and drone-intercept capabilities needed to safeguard next year’s EU Presidency.

3. Tesla shareholders overwhelmingly endorsed a massive pay package for CEO Elon Musk yesterday that could reach a total value of $1 trillion, which would make him the world’s first trillionaire.

4. It was a unlucky set of results for both Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne FC in their UEFA Conference League fixtures last night – Rovers conceded a 90th-minute penalty to draw 1-1, while Shelbourne had a man sent off just 16 minutes in and lost 1-0.

5. Actress Pauline Collins, who starred in Shirley Valentine, has died at the age of 85, her family has announced.

She died “peacefully at her care home in Highgate this week, having endured Parkinson’s for several years”.

ChatGPT lawsuits

6. OpenAI is facing seven lawsuits claiming ChatGPT drove people to suicide and harmful delusions, even when they had no prior mental health issues.

The lawsuits were filed yesterday in California state courts and allege wrongful death, assisted suicide, involuntary manslaughter and negligence.

PSNI appeal

7. The PSNI has appealed for the public’s help in identifying a man in relation to an investigation into the discovery of a pipe bomb outside a Sinn Féin office in Co Down.

The device was discovered at the party’s office on Monaghan Street in Newry shortly before midnight on Sunday, 5 October after a report had been made to police about a suspicious object.

8. Six people were arrested last night amid protests held in Birmingham before Aston Villa’s football match with Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv.

9. US forces have struck another alleged drug trafficking boat in the Caribbean, killing three people, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said.
