GOOD MORNING

The 9 at 9 Nine things you need to know this morning…

EVERY DAY, TheJournal.ie brings you nine things you need to know with your morning cup of coffee.

1. #BUDGET 2014: The forthcoming Budget adjustment will be in the region of €2.7 billion and not the €3.1 billion that was originally planned according to the Sunday Business Post today. Pat Leahy writes that the coalition are at odds over the scale of austerity with €2.8 billion wanted by Fine Gael while Labour pushes for €2.5 billion to be taken out of the economy.

2. #KATHLEEN LYNCH: Junior Health Minister Kathleen Lynch has admitted there have been disagreements with Health Minister James Reilly over the past two years but told TheJournal.ie she has a “good working relationship” with the Fine Gael TD.

3. #COURTS: A man has been charged over the murder of Aleksandra Sarzynska in Navan last month. The woman in her 30s was found dead in an apartment in the Meath town on Friday, 30 August.

4. #STAB VESTS: The Health Service Executive has said there are no plans to provide ambulance staff with stab vests even though the National Ambulance Service has agreed to a possible trial of lightweight protective equipment currently in development.

5. #PRIORY HALL: Stephanie Meehan, whose fiancée Fiachra Daly took his own life recently, received a letter from the bank telling her that €17,000 was still owed on her dilapidated Priory Hall home, according to the Sunday Independent today. Meanwhile, the Sunday Business Post reports that some banks are using debt-collection agencies to demand arrears from ex-residents of the uninhabitable apartment complex.

6. #ROADS: A man has died after the car he was travelling in hit a wall in rural Cork in the early hours of yesterday morning. The 40-year-old man was the sole occupant of the car which crashed on the Bantry to Castletownbere Road between 2am and 3am yesterday.

7. #COURT REFERENDUM: In a rare outbreak of cross-party consensus all four main political parties will be supporting the referendum to establish a Court of Appeal which takes place on the same day the future of the Seanad is determined. Here’s what the parties said.

8. #ABORTION: Some government TDs were warned off seeking communion at mass by their local priests if they supported the abortion bill, according to Daniel McConnell in the Sunday Independent today. But the Irish Bishops have insisted that there was no central diktat to excommunicate deputies.

9. #UP FOR THE MATCH: It’s All-Ireland Hurling Final day with all roads leading to Croke Park as Clare and Cork do battle. It’s JBM versus Davy Fitz and here’s what our writers think is going to happen.
