Hosepipe ban

1. A hosepipe ban that is currently in place across six counties is set to be extended nationwide from Friday.

UCD deception arrest

2. A woman in her 20s has been arrested over allegations of deception against UCD. 

The arrest is believed to be in connection with the case of a medical student who sued UCD over its handling of her academic situation after she alleged she was raped.

Middle East

3. Fresh US strikes triggered air defences in Tehran this morning after Donald Trump warned he was “not finished” with a war with Iran that has already cost his nation $37.5 billion (€32.8 billion).

Summer Economic Statement

4. The government will release its Summer Economic Statement this afternoon, which will indicate the health of the public finances ahead of the next budget in October.

Tánaiste and minister for finance Simon Harris has indicated there will be tax cuts in the upcoming budget and today’s statement will set out how much room there is for those reductions.

Tramore stabbing

5. A man in his 30s has been charged in connection with an alleged stabbing at a church in Tramore, Co Waterford on Tuesday morning.

He’s due before court in Waterford at 10.30am this morning.

Municipal councils

6. The government has been advised to introduce Municipal Councils in local authorities across the country, as part of a significant overhaul of local government.

Disposable barbecues

7. Government ministers will be presented with a proposal to introduce new legislation for national parks this morning, which will include “significant” fines for people who light barbecues in them.

E-scooter regulations

8. The director of a chain of e-scooter shops has said they welcome the new regulations, but the responsibility for enforcement must lie with parents and gardaí.

Paddy O’Brien, director of LOCO Scooters, told The Journal that he agrees with many of the new rules that have been adopted by the government.

Netanyahu arrest warrant

9. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has said his administration does not have the legal authority to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits the city, but called on the US federal government to enforce an International Criminal Court warrant against him.
