24-YEAR-OLD French man Benjamin Renard died in Beaumont Hospital today, following a crash on Adelaide Road in Dublin’s city centre just over two weeks ago.

Benjamin was one of six people hospitalised after the major road traffic collision.

It happened at the junction of Adelaide Road and Earlsfort Terrace at around 6.16pm on Tuesday 22 August.

Benjamin was taken to St James’s Hospital before later being transferred to Beaumont where he was in intensive care with serious head injuries.

He worked as an account manager at LinkedIn and attended Dublin City University where he studied Global Business and Marketing.

“After a brave fight he has sadly passed away. We are doing all that we can to support his family and friends during this most difficult of times,” Sharon McCooey, Head of LinkedIn Ireland, said in a statement to TheJournal.ie.

A crowdfunding page for Benjamin’s recovery was set up in the aftermath of the crash. It has raised over €25,000.

Gardaí said that it appeared from initial investigations that a number of pedestrians were struck by a car but they stressed that it was not a hit-and-run.

Following the crash, a spokesperson at the Garda Press Office ruled out any link to terrorist activity.

Fire engines from Donnybrook, Tara Street and Dolphin’s Barn attended the scene, as did ambulances from Dublin Fire Brigade and the National Ambulance Service.

Investigating gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or any drivers with dash cam footage to contact Pearse Street Garda Station on 01 666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
