IF YOU THOUGHT the idea of a cat café was bonkers, you might want to sit down before you read the rest of this post.
Not content with furry felines, Soho in London will soon have its own pop-up cocktail bar, Annie The Owl, where for one week patrons will get to hang out with owls while they sup on a drink.
(This isn’t a unique thing, by the way – Japan got there first with bars like Akiba Fukurou.)
People are getting VERY excited about it.
Three thousand people have already entered the draw for tickets. The winners will get to drink two cocktails and spend two hours in the company of six owls, for the price of £20.
The event, which is sponsored by start-up Locappy, will raise money for The Barn Owl Centre, and will open from 19 – 25 March.
With any animal-themed event like this, issues of animal welfare most certainly come into play. Annie The Owl says that all owls “are trained to be around the public and will be accompanied by professional falconers”, which should put some people’s minds at ease.

Annie
The Queen who leads them all. She likes attention so make sure you bring loads of hugs and smiles for her. It was her decision to come to London and meet the people who dwell here.
Darwin
The Carer. He is a do-er. He is the Queen-maker. He takes care of the whole lot. He can even rotate his head 270 degree to watch out for any danger and can eat up to 1000 mice a year!
Ruby
The Exotic One of the Owl-Pack. She comes from a land far away where only a few owls have ever been. She has a small clan and a very tightly knit community. London is going to be an “experience” for her!
Cinders
The Cheeky One. Just look at her… She is the one everyone wants to talk to; always the centre of attention! Apparently, she is also very diplomatic and is the one to go to when it comes to tribal issues.
Winston
The Wise One. Bless this legend. He has been around for a long time and he instills his knowledge and wise words onto the rest of the pack. Always a critic and a skeptic. He can also see far away, literary! He made the flight plan from Asia to London single handedly.
Hootie
Beauty Queen. We are not allowed to talk about her as she is the finalist in the World Owl Beauty Pageant. Everything is confidential until she arrives in the UK.
