St Patrick statue banished from Temple Bar turns up in Kildare parades

Our sources tell us it was also set to appear in the Celbridge parade today.

AN UNLIKELY RETURN has been made one St Patrick’s Day parade, with the giant statue of our patron saint raising a pint appearing in Kildare.

The statue – which was removed after it was installed in Temple Bar last month – turned up among the participants of the St Patrick’s Day parade in Maynooth.

Our sources tell us he was also appeared in the Celbridge and Leixlip parades today.

Last month Dublin City Council ordered the removal of the giant statue less than 24 hours after it first appeared on the city centre landmark.

The 14-foot figure, which was installed yesterday morning and depicted Ireland’s patron saint holding what appeared to be a pint of Guinness above the corner of the tourist pub, was removed earlier today.

The installation of the figure and its sudden removal has become something of a national talking point both online and in traditional media coverage.
