Alleged car-jacker hit by car he was trying to steal

The 23-year-old was immediately arrested.

POLICE IN BELFAST have arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of attempted hijacking, possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances, and disorderly behaviour.

He was detained following an incident last night, in which a man armed with a fake gun stepped out in front of a car on North Street in the city, apparently attempting to hijack it.

He was then struck by the vehicle, police say.

The man was detained at the scene and taken to hospital for treatment to a suspected broken leg.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the PSNI on the non-emergency number ’101′. Information can also be provided confidentially to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
