AN INVESTIGATION IS under way after a carjacking at Dublin Airport on Tuesday afternoon.

A man in his mid-60s was loading the boot of his car when he was assaulted by another man who then jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off.

The driver knocked down another person who tried to prevent him from getting away as the car drove out of the airport.

Gardaí were alerted by Airport Police and the stolen car was stopped on the nearby Naul Road shortly afterwards. A 24-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

One member of An Garda Síochána, aged in his late 20s, was injured during the arrest and was brought to James Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown for treatment. He has since been released.

The arrested man was also injured and was taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged and remains in custody at Ballymun Garda Station.

He has been charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear in court this morning.

The car owner was also brought to Beaumont Hospital to be treated for injuries he sustained during the attack.
