Ceremony held to mark 95th anniversary of Easter Rising

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny and president Mary McAleese took part in the ceremony to mark the 95th anniversary of the Easter Rising on Dublin’s O’Connell Street earlier today.

A CEREMONY TOOK place in Dublin this morning to mark the 95th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny and president Mary McAleese were in attendance at the commemoration outside the General Post Office (GPO) on the city’s O’Connell Street.

Minister for defence Alan Shatter and minister for children Frances Fitzgerald also attended along with former Taoisigh Liam Cosgrave and Bertie Ahern.

The chief of staff of the Irish Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Sean McCann and the Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan were also present.

Around 3,000 members of the public watched the ceremony which ended with a fly past by the Air Corps.
