Clare body confirmed as that of missing McCarthy

Gardaí renew their appeal for public assistance, as a post-mortem is expected to show a violent death.

GARDAÍ HAVE CONFIRMED that the body discovered on a beach in Co Clare earlier this week was that of missing 43-year-old woman Deirdre McCarthy.

A post-mortem exam is being carried out on the remains of McCarthy, who had not been seen since last Sunday evening.

Gardaí said that it appeared the 43-year-old had died in violent and suspicious circumstances, and renewed an appeal for information from anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity or movements in the area on Sunday night and Monday morning.

In particular, information is sought as to any activity in the vicinity of Turlough House, or on the roads in and out of Ballyvaughan, Lisdoonvarna or Kilfanora, between 11:30pm on Sunday night and 7am on Monday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ennistymon Garda Station (065) 7072180, or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
