THE DEFENCE FORCES say that an improvised explosive device (IED) was made safe outside a house in Inchicore in Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team was deployed to a residential estate in the Oblate Drive area of Inchicore just after midnight last night following a request from Gardaí.

The team examined the device located outside a private residence after arriving on the scene just before 12.30am.

The viable IED was made safe by way of a controlled explosion and the scene was declared safe at 1.10am.

The remains of the device have been handed over to Gardaí who are investigating.
