Twelve people rescued off Cork coastline
The distress alert was issued shortly before 6am this morning.
TWELVE PEOPLE HAVE been rescued off the coast of Cork in a major operation this morning.
Crew from the Radoche Tercero fishing vessel issued a distress call before 6am today, according to a statement from the Coast Guard.
The crew reported that their boat was taking water. The Coast Guard instructed a Shannon-based helicopter and several boats to search for the group.
The 12-person crew had evacuated to a lifeboat after the alert was sounded and were later picked up by the Punteareas Uno fishing boat.
The Coast Guard confirmed that the group were found safe and do not require any medical attention.
They arrived back at the Castletownbere pier this afternoon.
