Court appearance for man charged over Portlaoise death

He has been charged in connection with the death of Englishman Thomas Thompson, whose remains were found in Portlaoise in 2007.

A MAN WILL appear in court this morning charged in connection with the death of a man who went missing in Portlaoise in 2007.

Gardaí from Portlaoise investigating the murder of Thomas Thompson in 2007 charged a 27-year-old man in connection with Thompson’s death on 21 June of this year.

The man appeared before Carrick-on-Shannon District Court and was remanded in custody to appear before Harristown District Court, Castlerea on Friday 24 June 2011 at 10.30am.

Thompson was a 59-year-old Yorkshire man who had been working in Ireland.

He was reported missing on 20 April 2007 from his home at Borris Road, Portlaoise.

His remains were found at Dysart, Portlaoise, on 23 January 2008.
