Customs office in cannabis seizure in Galway

Drugs with a street value of around €250,000 are seized in Galway, with two people arrested.

CUSTOMS OFFICERS and Gardaí have seized 20kg of herbal cannabis in a raid in Galway.

Officers from the Revenue’s Customs service based in Dublin and Galway led the operation, which was assisted by members of the Garda National Drugs Unit and local Gardaí.

The cannabis – with an approximate street value of €250,000 – had been stored in a holdall which had earlier been imported through Dublin Port from Belgium and was transferred under surveillance to Galway.

Two Irish men, both in their 40s, have been arrested under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 and are being held at Millstreet Garda station.

Both men were arrested at the handover of the drugs, and investigations are ongoing.
