Cyclist (50s) dies following collision in Co Mayo

Last night, gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of a collision involving a car and a bicycle.

A CYCLIST IN his 50s has died after he was involved in a collision with a vehicle in Co Mayo.

The fatal road traffic incident happened outside Ballinrobe on the N84 at Carrowkeel, Co Mayo shortly after 9pm on Wednesday.

The cyclist, a man in his mid 50s, sustained serious injuries and was transported to University College Hospital, Galway where he was later pronounced dead.

The scene remains preserved for forensic examination by garda forensic collision investigators and the road is currently closed, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.

Road users with camera footage, including dash-cam, from the N84 at Carrowkeel around the time of the collision are also asked to make this footage available.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Claremorris garda station on 094 9372080, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.

Investigations are ongoing.
