Cyclist dies after collision with car

The driver of the car was taken to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

A POST-MORTEM is due to take place on the body of a man who died in a collision outside Ballyhaunis today.

GardaĆ­ at Swinford are investigating the fatal road traffic collision in which the male cyclist, who was in his late 40s, died.

The incident occurred on the Ballaghaderreen Road, Classaghroe, about a mile outside Ballyhaunis. The cyclist collided with a car at around 11.45am today.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and has been removed to the morgue in Castlebar, where a post-mortem is due to take place.

The driver of the car was taken to Mayo General and does not have life-threatening injuries.

The road is currently closed for forensic collision investigations.
