Dáil suspended as opposition demands clarity on cabinet

THE DÁIL has been suspended until 1:30pm, after Ceann Comhairle Séamus Kirk refused to allow the opposition parties seek clarification on whether some members of the cabinet remain in office. Fine Gael’s justice spokesman Alan Shatter had asked if Dermot Ahern, as Minister for Justice, had transferred his powers to another minister while he was in hospital, prompting Kirk to rule him out of order and having the Dáíl adjourned for 15 minutes. On resumption, discussion quickly returned to the topic – and Mary Coughlan then proposed to suspend the house  until lunchtime. Listen to both exchanges here >
