- An independent report into the deaths of nearly 200 children in the care system over 10 years has been described as harrowing and shocking today. It’s been called a “sad, shameful day” for Ireland.
- Polish police have told TheJournal.ie this evening that the body discovered during the search for 21-year-old Irish man James Nolan has yet to be identified. James’ family are arriving in the city of Bydgoszcz, where James went missing on Sunday morning. He was in Poland to attend Euro 2012 matches.
- Ryanair has been told by Aer Lingus that Ryanair’s offer to pay €649m for the 70 per cent of shares it doesn’t own “undervalues” it. Today’s poll asked if Ryanair should be allowed to buy its main Irish competitor.

- A father in Texas has escaped charges after he killed a man he caught molesting his five-year-old daughter.
- Antonis Samaras has been sworn in as the new leader of Greece after his party New Democracy formed a coalition with two minority partners.
- Some Ulster Bank customers faced disruption today after a technical glitch meant a number of account holders were unable to view details of transactions since yesterday evening.
- St. Patrick gets all the credit, but today we asked why there really are no snakes in Ireland. The question came after a Laois woman found a three foot escaped snake under her bed.
- Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman has warned American voters not to support Mitt Romney’s economic plans – saying the United States would experience a recession similar to Ireland’s if Romney was in charge.
- Over 2,000 commuters took part in a Bike to Work lunchtime cycle today, including Sinn Féin’s Gerry Adams. Twitter user Unkie Dave had this to say about Dublin Mayor Andew Monatague’s get up:
- Something that’s been asked of McDonald’s for a while is why their burgers look so much jucier in the advertisements, compared to the ones that we’re served in restaurants. Now the fast food chain has provided the answers.
