WORKS TO REPAIR flood damage done in Dublin in October 2011 are still not completed – but are expected to be finished within the next two years.
Kevin Humphreys TD said that the majority of the work that was recommended by Dublin City Council hasn’t been finished yet, but he is hopeful there will not be a repeat of the flooding seen in October 2011.
Yesterday a weather warning was issued by Met Éireann to local councils after forecasts showed up to a month’s worth of rain could fall in 36 hours in Dublin this week.
Deputy Humphreys noted that Irish Rail conducted a report into the flooding that occurred along the banks of the River Dodder, where obstruction caused by debris under the Irish Rail bridge led to the flooding of dozens of homes and properties upstream in the Ballsbridge area.
Irish Rail said that the report will be published within the next week to 10 days.
“I will be much happier when the work is done,” said Deputy Humphreys, who added that the work is progressing, but that planning permission has to be applied for before it can begin in certain areas.
He said meetings had been held with local residents, while consultants are looking at areas where there was basement flooding in Rathmines and Ranelagh.
Deputy Humphrey added that money has been put in situ for work to be carried out in The Dodder area.
“All the politicians from the area have been keeping a very watchful eye and making sure timelines given to local residents are kept on track,” he concluded.
