Dutch woman confesses to storing babies in suitcase

Woman arrested last week after discovery of four dead infants.

A 25-YEAR-OLD WOMAN in the Netherlands has confessed to giving birth to four babies, and then placing them in a suitcase. The bodies were then stored in the house the woman shares with her parents in Nij Beets, a rural town.

Dutch police said yesterday that they were concentrating on finding the father, or fathers, of the infants. The woman was arrested last week, but has not been charged.

Authorities believe the babies were born between 2002 and 2010. Forensic examinations of the remains to determine the cause and dates of death are being carried out.

Police found the bodies after being tipped off by the woman’s neighbour about her suspicious pregnancies. When questioned by police before the search, the woman said she had given birth to three babies but they had all been adopted. However, she was unable to produce evidence of the adoptions.

The woman’s parents are not believed to have known anything of the babies. The house remains sealed off.
