A BRITISH MP, who pleaded guilty to charges of common assault after headbutting a Conservative MP in a House of Commons bar last year, has reportedly been arrested again following a late night altercation in a parliamentary bar.
Eric Joyce, an independent MP for Falkirk, was held after an incident at the Sports and Social Club bar last night, the Guardian reports.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed they arrested a man in his 50s after being called to a disturbance at a bar just before 10.30pm.
Last year Joyce resigned from the Labour Party after pleading guilty to common assault. He was said to have headbutted a Tory MP in the Strangers bar in the House of Commons following a late night altercation.
He was fined £3,000 and ordered to pay £1,400 to victims of the incident.
The Independent carries an eyewitness report of last night’s incident in which Joyce was said to have wrestled on the ground with officers with one policeman’s helmet knocked off. He was later placed in a police van and taken away.
The 52-year-old, who was elected to parliament in 2000, plans to step down at the next election.
