PARTING SHOT

Acting great Catherine O’Hara sadly died today aged 71.

She was best known for to generation as Kevin McCallister’s mother in Home Alone, but had a revival in recent years that saw her gain acclaim and awards for roles in Schitt’s Creek and The Studio.

In between those jobs, O’Hara starred in a series of mockumentary films by Christopher Guest. One of these was A Mighty Wind, looking at folk groups that never quite made the grade.

The movie gives us the memorable scene when Eugene Levy and O’Hara play a reunited folk-singing duo who perform a song entitled A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow. As Rolling Stone described it: “In a film where most of the songs walk a tightrope between parody and sincerity, “A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow” plays things entirely, perfectly straight.”

The two reunited at the 2004 Oscars for a real-life performance of the tune.
