Two restaurants in Cork city evacuated after fire breaks out

Motorists were urged to avoid the area this evening.

TWO RESTAURANTS HAD to be evacuated after a fire broke out in Cork city centre this evening. 

Smoke was seen coming from a building behind a restaurant on Oliver Plunkett Street at around 7pm today. The alarm was raised by members of the public. 

Several units of Cork City Fire Brigade attended at the scene. The fire was brought under control by 8pm. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The impacted building will be inspected tomorrow to determine the scale of the damage caused in the incident. 

Motorists were urged to avoid the area this evening. There was some traffic congestion in the city centre this evening arising out of the incident.
