Four injured after Patrick's Day stabbing in Strabane

Four men sustain stabbing injuries after a disturbance at a bar in the Co Tyrone town – the second NI stabbing in three days.

POLICE IN TYRONE have issued a public appeal for information after four people were stabbed in the town of Strabane last night.

The stabbings came after a major disturbance outside a bar in the Abercorn Square area of the town at around 9:30pm.

Police said they had discovered the stabbing victims after being called to the site of the disturbance, and said two of the four victims remained in hospital.

Their injuries were serious, but are not thought to be life-threatening. One has sustained a serious injury to his hand, while two of the victims were brothers. All four of the victims were male.

PSNI chief inspector Andy Lemon told the BBC that the attackers may have crossed the border into the Republic, and said his staff “could very easily have been looking at a murder on the streets of Strabane.”

Anyone with information on the stabbing is asked to call the Strabane station at 0845 600 8000 (or 048 9065 0222 from the Republic of Ireland).

Last night’s disturbance came just two nights after four other people were stabbed following a disturbance at a bar in the Falls Road area of West Belfast.

A Belfast man appeared in court in relation to that incident yesterday.
